The Garden Assistance Scheme
If you’re having trouble looking after your garden because you’re older or you have disabilities, you may qualify to join the garden assistance scheme.
There’s a limited number of places on the scheme, so you’ll go onto a waiting list when you apply, and we’ll get in touch as soon as a place becomes available.
The scheme covers:
- cutting your grass 12 times a year between March and October
- cutting hedges twice a year, between May and June, and between October and November
- a winter clean-up between November and March, including pruning shrubs and roses.
The scheme doesn't cover:
- maintaining rockeries
- looking after newly planted areas
- vegetable patches
- ponds
- fencing.
Qualification:
To be eligible for the Garden Assistance Scheme, we strongly encourage you to also subscribe to Nottingham City Council's garden waste collection service.
If you choose not to, you'll still be eligible for Garden Assistance, but our teams will operate a 'cut and drop' service. This means that they will leave grass cuttings on your lawn for you to dispose of, rather than collecting and putting them in your garden waste bin.
You must also be in receipt of one of the following:
- Personal Independence Payment
- Attendance Allowance
- Low level carers' Disability Living Allowance
- High level mobility Disability Living Allowance
or aged 70 or above and:
- Have no-one living in your household who is not registered disabled
- Have no rent arrears over £500 (unless you're on and keeping to a repayment plan).
If you think you’re eligible for the garden assistance scheme and you’d like to apply, please complete an application form and send it to us by email with the documents we request on the form.
