Supporting parents, carers, children, maintained schools and academies to improve school attendance in Nottingham City.

With immediate affect The Education Welfare Service has revised their ‘Request for service online form’ which is available here.   Also accessible is the revised Common Attendance Protocol (September 2016-17) here, and the Nottingham City Code of Conduct in relation to Penalty Notices Code of Conduct here

All requests for service should be made via the online form.

Criteria for service

Any pupil with 10 sessions of unauthorised absence over a rolling 10 week period (10%) unauthorised absence. This can include lateness after the register has closed and unauthorised holidays or just consist of unexplained or unacceptable reasons for absence.

Once received the following will also be taken into consideration:

  • Whole year attendance (380 sessions) this may straddle the previous/next academic year. (Schools are required to upload the previous and current year’s attendance date)
  • If the absence is due to an unauthorised holiday (taking into account the attendance periods specified above) but the pupil’s attendance has remained above 90% with NO other unauthorised absences the referral will not be accepted
  • Requests for service should be timely. The last day of absence should be within the last 10 school days prior to the referral being made
  • Breach of a Deferred Prosecution Notice (DPN) or Advisory Notice (AN). Refer the breach at 5 further unauthorised absences or more with your record of any warnings or interventions.
