The competition, asks children aged five to 11 from England and Wales to write a poem on the theme of diversity, taking inspiration from a poem written specially for the competition by Joseph Coelho, titled Beautifully different, Wonderfully the same.

The first 1,000 schools to enter will get a bag full of brilliant free poetry books, and there are amazing prizes up for grabs for the winners including:

  • A Premier League Trophy visit to your school
  • A visit to your school by a children’s author or poet to lead a poetry workshop
  • Poems published in an official Premier League Writing Stars book with bespoke illustrations
  • An invitation to a national celebration event and the chance to meet other poets and special guests

Judges for this year include Rio Ferdinand, Olly Murs and Lauren Child, and the competition closes for entries on 21 December. There’s lots more information, including free classroom resources to help you run the competition, on the Premier League website.

It would be great to have a school from Nottingham among the winners!
