Street vending outside Schools has been brought to the attention of several departments within Nottingham City Council. This on-going problem has been raised by Schools, parents and local residents as being a nuisance and potential safety issue for pupils around schools.
Vendors appear at the start and end of the school day selling unhealthy foodstuffs and high energy drinks from vehicles on the highway to pupils. Additionally, this has a negative impact on the local area, litter and the healthy schools ethos.
Under the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982 the City Council are able to designate streets for the purposes of street trading. This means that people are not able to sell goods on any of the designated streets without the consent of the Council. This process can take between 4 and 6 months depending on Committee cycles. At present, if a street is neither consented nor prohibited, vendors can set up and sell goods in an uncontrolled manner. It is the intention of the authority to consent all relevant streets associated with Schools and control the consent of licence applications.
We would like to seek your views on this matter; it may be that your school does not currently experience this particular type of street trading, however we would like to control any potential site that street vendors may operate from in the future and this is invaluable so that we can start the process for re-designating the streets surrounding your school.
If you agree with us taking actions to prevent street trading problems outside your school and would like to provide us with any issues you have relating to this, please email email@example.com by the 15th September. If you have any queries or problems regarding this matter, please contact Susan Elwood on 0115 8761968.
Thank you for your help in this matter
